Trauma and abuse
The impact of psychological trauma such as childhood sexual abuse, rape and domestic violence is significant and can show itself in various ways including self harm, suicide attempts, relationship issues, addictions, eating issues, nightmares and flashbacks, to name but a few.
Having an opportunity to understand how any such experiences may have affected you, as well as finding ways to manage the impact of trauma and to process difficult feelings about these experiences may help you to cope better day to day.
Perinatal mental health
Becoming a parent is extremely challenging for all of us. If people become parents when they themselves have not had a good experience of being parented, then this is even more challenging. The opportunity to talk about some of the challenges in the context of your own experience of being parented can be a helpful thing, especially in terms of learning ways to manage particular situations which may arise.
Complicated grief
There are many reasons why it may be difficult to move on from the loss of a friend or relative, or to adjust in a healthy way to a major life transition. Having the opportunity to understand why moving on may be difficult for you, as well as having the opportunity to process feelings in relation to this loss, may make moving on seem more achievable.
